Pick the family first, then the size
Most people arrive on this page with a number in mind, such as 18 people or 35 people. The number matters, but it is the second decision. The first is what you want the ride to be, because a 20 seat party bus, a 20 seat Hummer limo, and a 20 seat shuttle bus have almost nothing in common once the door closes.
There are three broad choices. If the ride is part of the celebration, with music, lights, and room to stand, you want a party bus or limo Sprinter. If the arrival is the moment, as it is for a wedding, a prom, or an anniversary dinner, you want a stretch or SUV limousine. If the job is simply to move people comfortably and on time, as it is for wedding guests, a company outing, or an airport group, you want a shuttle bus, motorcoach, or executive Sprinter van.

10 to 14 passengers: stretch limo, limo Sprinter, or executive Sprinter. A sedan stretch such as the 10 passenger black Lincoln limo is the classic choice, but you slide along a bench to get in, which is awkward in a ball gown or for an older relative. The 14 passenger limo Sprinter has the same lounge seating with a door you walk through upright. The executive Sprinter swaps the lounge for forward-facing seats and suits a work trip.
16 to 22 passengers: SUV limo or small party bus. This is the most common tie. The 20 passenger Hummer limo makes a bigger entrance and photographs well; the 20 passenger party bus lets people stand, move, and dance. For a night with four or five stops, the bus is easier to get in and out of. For one grand arrival, take the limo.
16 to 46 passengers: party bus or shuttle bus. Ask who is riding. Friends on a birthday want the bench seating and sound system of a party bus. Wedding guests aged 5 to 85 want a forward-facing seat and a smooth ride, which is what a 30 passenger shuttle bus provides. 40 to 56 passengers: large party bus, large shuttle, or motorcoach. The 45 passenger party bus is the biggest vehicle with a party layout. Past that, or for any ride over an hour, a 56 passenger coach bus with reclining seats and luggage bays is the better tool.

What the request data says about who picks what
The split between limousines and party buses shows up clearly in the quote requests that pass through our national booking network. Among inquiries quoted as a limousine, 81% were for ten passengers or fewer. Among inquiries quoted as a party bus, only 12% were that small, and nearly a quarter were for groups of 21 to 30. People are sorting themselves sensibly: small groups into limos, mid-size groups onto buses.
The practical lesson is for groups in the gap. If you have 11 to 15 people, you are too big for most sedan stretches and small for a bus, which is exactly why the limo Sprinters and the 14 passenger Navigator limo exist. Look there before you squeeze into a 10 or pay for a 24.
Timing differs too. About 40% of limousine inquiries arrived less than two weeks before the event, against 26% across all vehicle types. Limo plans tend to be simpler, one pickup and one destination, so people leave them later. That works on an ordinary weekend and fails on prom Saturdays and in December, and a quarter of limousine inquiries were for winter dates, more than the 19% winter share overall. Party bus inquiries were spread more evenly, with roughly 45% arriving between two weeks and two months out.

Sizing rules that hold across the whole fleet
- Book for the list you might have, not the list you have today. Groups grow in the last week. Two to four spare seats cost little; a second vehicle on the day costs a lot.
- Rated capacity is a maximum. It counts every seat, including the tight ones. Formalwear, winter coats, and coolers each take room. Prom groups in gowns should size up by about 15%.
- Luggage needs its own plan. Limousines and party buses have almost no cargo space. An airport group of 12 with suitcases belongs in an executive Sprinter or a shuttle bus with a luggage area.
- Think about the oldest and youngest rider. Bench seating and club lighting are fun for friends and tiring for grandparents. Mixed-age groups are happier facing forward.
- Youth trips are alcohol-free. For prom, homecoming, sweet 16, and quinceañera rides, no alcohol is allowed on board and a parent or chaperone contact should be named on the reservation. The prom page has the full rundown.

Two vehicles here have the same capacity. How do I choose between them?
Capacity overlaps on purpose. At 20 passengers you can choose a party bus, a Hummer limo, or a shuttle bus, and they are three different evenings. Pick by what happens on board: standing and dancing means the party bus, a seated lounge and a photo-worthy arrival means the limo, and a plain comfortable ride for guests of mixed ages means the shuttle. Will I get the exact vehicle shown in the photos?
The photos show the class and size you are asking about, and the written quote identifies the vehicle assigned to your date. Interiors differ between two buses of the same size, such as the seating color, the bar layout, or the screen placement. If one detail matters to you, a white exterior for wedding photos for instance, put it in the request so it is confirmed in writing before you pay a deposit.
What is the smallest group that makes sense for these vehicles?
The smallest listing seats eight, and groups of six to eight are common in the 10 passenger limousines and Sprinters, where the spare seats become elbow room. Below six people, a private group vehicle is a splurge for the experience more than a practical choice, which is a perfectly good reason for an anniversary or a milestone birthday. Operators set minimum hours regardless of how many seats you fill.
What if my group is bigger than 56 people?
Then you need more than one vehicle, since the 56 passenger coach is the largest single listing. Two matched buses work well for a one-time move. For weddings and conferences, a single shuttle or coach running a loop often covers 80 to 120 guests across two or three trips at lower cost. Send the full headcount and schedule, and ask for both options to be quoted so you can compare.
Which vehicles are wheelchair accessible?
Accessibility is not tied to one listing. Lift-equipped vehicles exist mainly among shuttle buses and motorcoaches, and they have to be requested specifically. Limousines and most party buses have steps and narrow doors that do not work for a wheelchair user who cannot transfer. Mention any mobility needs, including guests who simply cannot manage steep steps, at the start of your request so the right vehicle is sourced.
Is one larger vehicle cheaper than two smaller ones?
Almost always. Two vehicles mean two drivers and two sets of minimum hours, so a 30 passenger bus typically costs less than a pair of 14 passenger vehicles and keeps the group together. Splitting makes sense in a few cases: pickups in opposite suburbs, a venue that cannot take a long bus, or a wedding where the couple wants a limo and the wedding party rides a bus.
Which vehicle types are hardest to find on short notice?
The two ends of the range. Full-size motorcoaches and the 40 to 45 passenger party buses are few in number, and one event can hold one all day. On prom Saturdays the white stretch limousines and 20 to 24 passenger party buses go early as well. Mid-size shuttle buses and weekday Sprinter vans are usually the easiest to arrange inside two weeks.
