Twenty or twenty-two: decide by the last two names on the list

The two Hummer limos are close relatives, so choose between them on headcount and route, not on looks.

Go with the 22 when the confirmed list is eighteen or more adults, or twenty or more teenagers, and everyone genuinely needs to ride together. The additional bench length is the difference between a full cabin and an overfull one, and overfull limousines are where dresses get stepped on and tempers shorten.

Past twenty people, almost everyone takes a bus. Here is why you might not

Once a group crosses twenty, the market overwhelmingly goes one way. In our national booking-network data, 98% of inquiries for 21 to 30 passengers with a recognizable quoted vehicle were quoted a party bus. Groups in that band make up about 17% of all inquiries, and the vehicles built for them are, almost without exception, buses.

That is sensible. A bus has a full-height door, an aisle, standing room, and space for coolers, and it costs less to build and operate per seat than a custom-stretched Hummer. If your group of twenty-one is doing a brewery tour or a five-stop bar crawl, take the 24 passenger party bus and do not look back.

The 22 passenger Hummer limo exists for the exceptions, and they are good ones:

• The arrival matters more than the ride. Prom, quinceañeras, milestone birthdays, and wedding entrances where the photo at the curb is a keepsake.
• The itinerary is short. One or two stops, so the slow loading of a bench limousine barely matters.
• The group wants to sit together. A bench puts everyone in one conversation; a bus splits into front and back.

Route planning for the longest limousine in the lineup

With a vehicle this long, the route should be designed, not improvised. A few principles keep the night on schedule.

Consolidate pickups. One location, ideally with a through street or a large lot. Every additional residential pickup adds a difficult approach. In suburbs such as Bolingbrook or Arlington Heights, a school, park district, or shopping center lot often makes a better meeting point than a cul-de-sac, with the owner's permission where needed.

Favor arterials. Stops on wide streets like Western, Ashland, Roosevelt, or Ogden are simple. Stops mid-block on a one-way side street may not be reachable at all.

Expect detours around low viaducts. Chicago's rail embankments create underpasses with posted height limits. A tall stretched SUV routes around the lowest of them, so trust the driver's path even when your phone suggests a shortcut.

Ask venues about limousine access. Banquet halls and hotels usually have a plan; ask where a long limousine should stop. Check the venue's current loading rules rather than assuming the front door.

Build in loading time. Twenty people through limousine doors is slow. Allow ten to fifteen minutes per stop.

Big prom groups: eleven couples, one plan

The 22 is, above all, a prom vehicle. Large friend groups want to arrive together, and splitting into two limousines means someone ends up in "the other car". It is also the hardest prom booking to pull off late. Families plan prom later than almost any other occasion: only 4% of prom quote requests in our data came in 90 days or more ahead, against 18% across all inquiries. Organizing twenty-two teenagers needs structure:

• One lead parent signs the agreement, holds the itinerary, and is the driver's contact.
• One pickup address on a street the limousine can reach, with photos taken there.
• A written roster so the driver knows the count, and so nobody extra tries to board.
• No alcohol, vaping, or drugs on board. Make sure the students know the ride ends early if that rule is broken, and confirm the specific policy on your written quote.
