The 15-to-17 problem, and why this bus solves it

Group counts rarely hold still. In our booking network's national inquiry data, 76% of quote requests that named a vehicle in the 11–20 seat range also listed 11 to 20 passengers. People are shopping for a bus about the size of their list, with very little slack. That works until the list changes, and it nearly always changes upward in the final two weeks.

The 18 is built-in slack. Here is how the numbers tend to play out:

• 13 to 15 riders: the sweet spot. Everyone sits, bags have a home, and there is space to stand at a stop.
• 16 riders: fine for a summer night with light bags and short hops.
• 17 to 18 riders: legal, but snug. Coats go on laps and the cooler goes in the aisle.

If you are at 17 today, you are really a 20-passenger or 22-passenger party bus group. The capacity on the quote is a firm limit, and a driver cannot make an exception at the curb. Pre-wedding parties are the classic 18-seat booking. The detail that trips these groups up is pickups. Out-of-town guests are spread across two hotels and an Airbnb, and every extra address costs ten to twenty minutes of your reserved time. The stretched SUV has presence. It is long, low, glossy, and unmistakably a limousine in photos. The trade-off is physical. A realistic five-hour night, hour by hour

Groups new to party buses tend to plan too many stops. Loading 15 people takes about ten minutes every time, and Chicago traffic on a Saturday evening does not care about your reservation. A schedule that works looks something like this:

• Hour one. Pickup and the longest drive of the night, with the playlist on and the first round of photos. If you start in the suburbs, this is the Kennedy or the Eisenhower.

Questions that save money before you sign

A few specific questions separate a quote you can rely on from one that surprises you later:

• What is the hourly minimum for my date, and does the clock start at pickup or when the bus leaves the garage? Practices differ, and it changes the math for suburban pickups.
• What does the total include? Ask for fuel, tolls, parking, and gratuity to be listed separately so you can see each one.
• What is the cancellation and date-change policy? Pre-wedding parties move more than any other event type.
• Which bus is assigned, and what does it have? Get the feature list in writing.
• What is the cleaning-fee policy? It is nearly always avoidable, and it is good to know the terms.
