Uptown: the Pickwick, the tracks and a six-way intersection
Uptown Park Ridge grew up around its train station. The Union Pacific Northwest line runs diagonally through the middle of it, alongside Northwest Highway, and Touhy Avenue and Prospect Avenue cross there to form a six-cornered intersection. The Pickwick Theatre's Art Deco tower stands on one corner, and the restaurants and wine bars spread out from it. It is a lovely place to walk and an awkward place to stop a bus.
So plan the loading point, not just the dinner. Side streets a block off the intersection, or a public lot near the library and Hodges Park, give a driver room to pull over without blocking a turn lane. Train arrivals bring a burst of commuters and lowered gates, and it is worth avoiding the top of the hour on weekday evenings.
A typical local booking is a celebration dinner in Uptown followed by a ride into the city, or the reverse: a day downtown that ends with a late table near home. Just over the city line, the bar strip in Edison Park along Northwest Highway is a five minute hop, and the two districts pair naturally. Ten minutes from the terminals
Park Ridge is one of the closest residential suburbs to O'Hare. The terminals are 10 to 20 minutes from most addresses, by way of Touhy Avenue, Higgins Road or a short stretch of the Kennedy. That makes a group airport run almost trivially short, and it raises a fair question: why book a vehicle at all?
The answer is luggage and headcount. A family of eleven leaving for a cruise, a wedding party flying to a destination ceremony, or a team with trade-show cases will need three or four rideshares, and those rarely arrive together. With the Kennedy a few minutes away by Cumberland Avenue or Harlem Avenue, Park Ridge groups treat the city as their backyard. Maine South dances, club receptions and photos in the park
Maine South High School is in Park Ridge, and its prom and homecoming fill spring and fall weekends. School dance rides are alcohol-free, a parent is named as the adult contact, and the pickup and return addresses are listed on the reservation. Not every group is large. Residential blocks
Park Ridge streets are tree-lined, with parking on one or both sides. Most are wide enough for a mid-size bus to pause at the curb. Low branches are the concern for tall vehicles, so mention a heavy canopy.
Station lots
The Uptown and Dee Road Metra stations have commuter parking under permit rules on weekdays. In the evening and on weekends they work for a quick group load. Read the posted signs before leaving any cars.
