Third Street and the station at the end of it
Geneva is the rare far-west suburb people travel to rather than from. Third Street runs south from State Street past blocks of shops and restaurants in converted Victorian houses and ends at the Union Pacific West Metra station, which means a group can step off a train from Ogilvie and be at lunch in five minutes. It also makes the station the Tri-Cities' de facto front door: friends arriving from the city for a shower, a birthday or a shopping day often meet their ride there.
Most of these outings are small. A girls' day out of eight to twelve people fits a limo Sprinter, which has the headroom and the cargo space for shopping bags that a stretch limo lacks. A typical plan is a late-morning pickup, Third Street until mid-afternoon, a stop at Geneva Commons on Randall Road if anyone wants the national stores, then dinner in St. Charles or back home.
The catch is curb space. Third Street is lined with angled and parallel parking that stays full on weekends, and a vehicle longer than a van has nowhere to stand. Plan on a quick drop near the courthouse or the station and a scheduled pickup, not a bus idling outside the boutique.
Wedding weekends along the Fox River
Geneva punches far above its size for weddings. The Herrington Inn sits directly on the river at State Street, riverside banquet properties and country clubs line the valley in both directions, and the historic Kane County Courthouse on Third Street hosts civil ceremonies that end with a limo and a lunch reservation. Fabyan Forest Preserve, with its Dutch windmill and Japanese garden, is the favorite photo stop; ask the Forest Preserve District of Kane County about photography permits and where a large vehicle may park.
Wedding groups run bigger than most. Three events reshape downtown Geneva every year: Swedish Days in early summer, Festival of the Vine in September, and the Christmas Walk in early December. Check current dates with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, because schedules shift. During each, parts of Third Street, State Street or the surrounding blocks close to traffic, parking disappears by late morning, and Route 38 through town slows badly.
For a group, that is an argument for a vehicle and also a constraint on it. Arrange the drop several blocks from the closures, on a side street east or west of the festival footprint, and agree on a pickup time rather than a vague "text me." Festival of the Vine in particular pairs well with a broader wine tour day. Among wine tour inquiries in our network, 40% were for summer dates and about a third arrived 14 to 29 days out, so a September festival Saturday needs more lead time than the average.

Out of town: Chicago, the airports and a ballgame

Route 38 becomes Roosevelt Road and is lined with stoplights all the way east, so drivers usually take Kirk Road south to I-88 at Farnsworth, or Randall Road to Orchard. O'Hare is 45 to 65 minutes and Midway 55 to 80. For early flights, Geneva families often prefer a Sprinter or SUV over driving and parking for a week.
Closer to home, the Kane County Cougars play at Northwestern Medicine Field on the east side near Kirk Road. It is an easy company or youth-team outing; youth trips are alcohol-free and need an adult in charge. Geneva High School's prom and homecoming follow the same rules.

The UP-West station at the south end of Third Street is the natural meeting point for guests arriving by train. Commuter lots are open on weekends, but a bus should load along the edge, not in the kiss-and-ride lane.

No standing room for anything larger than a van. Use a quick drop near the courthouse block and schedule the pickup, or meet on a wider parallel street.
Riverfront venues

Older neighborhoods near downtown
