Photos at the Bahá'í House of Worship and Gillson Park
The white dome at Sheridan Road and Linden Avenue is the most photographed building on the North Shore, and wedding parties, prom groups and quinceañera courts all want it behind them. Two things need saying plainly. First, it is an active house of worship with gardens that visitors are asked to treat quietly, and it sets its own policy on posed and professional photography. Look up the current visitor and photography guidelines, or call, before you promise anyone that shot. Second, the streets around it were never meant for a bus. Sheridan Road bends sharply there, Linden Avenue is residential, and parking is scarce on a nice day.
Gillson Park, directly across the road along the lake, is the usual companion stop: harbor, beach, lawns and the temple dome in the distance. It belongs to the Wilmette Park District, which controls the lots and may require a permit for commercial photography or for larger vehicles. Summer weekends fill the park early.

Lake Avenue to the Edens, or Sheridan Road if you have time
Wilmette's way to the expressway is Lake Avenue, which runs the width of the village and meets the Edens on the west side. Old Orchard Road, just south in Skokie, is the alternate ramp. From either one, it is the Edens to the Kennedy and into downtown, 30 to 55 minutes on a typical evening. The junction where the Edens joins the Kennedy is the usual trouble spot. East-side residents have a long preamble, because Lake Avenue has lights, school zones and the Green Bay Road crossing before the ramp comes into view.
The scenic choice is Sheridan Road south through Evanston to DuSable Lake Shore Drive. It is pleasant in a limo and rarely faster. Larger buses generally keep to the expressway, so ask which way your vehicle will be routed.
Wrigleyville and the north side are where Wilmette has an edge over suburbs farther out. Surface streets through Evanston and Rogers Park, or the Edens to Irving Park Road, put you near the ballpark in 20 to 40 minutes. O'Hare is 25 to 45 minutes by way of Lake Avenue or Willow Road to the Tri-State. Wilmette teenagers attend New Trier, whose main campus is a town north in Winnetka, and the school is large. Its dances put a lot of groups on the road on the same evenings. Where to load in Wilmette
East-side residential blocks
Streets east of Green Bay Road are narrow and lined with mature trees, and parked cars often leave a single lane. A limo or Sprinter reaches the door. A full-size bus should load at a corner on a wider street such as Lake Avenue.
Sheridan Road and the temple
There is no bus stopping on the curves of Sheridan Road. Use a drop-and-return plan with a small vehicle, follow the house of worship's visitor guidance, and never block a driveway on Linden Avenue.
Gillson Park lots
The park district controls lakefront parking, and summer demand is high. Ask the district about permits and vehicle-size limits before listing the park as a photo stop, and have a second location in mind.
Village Center and the station
Around the Metra station, curb space is metered and short. Plan a quick active load on a side street, or use a lot with permission. West Wilmette's wider streets are easier for a big bus.
