Ogden Avenue, where dinner for sixteen is actually possible
Ogden Avenue crosses the north side of Westmont as a long commercial strip: a run of auto dealerships toward Route 83, and between them restaurants of every kind, from old-line Italian and steak to Thai, sushi, Indian, and Mexican. It is not a walkable district, and that is exactly why it works for a group vehicle. These are free-standing restaurants with their own parking lots, big dining rooms, and private-party space, so a table for sixteen is a phone call instead of a negotiation, and a bus can pull in and load at the door.
Birthdays are the usual reason. In our booking network's national inquiry data, a quarter of the people who asked for a party bus were planning a birthday, and 86% of birthday requests were for a Friday or Saturday. A typical Westmont version: collect the group from a few houses, dinner on Ogden, then a second act in downtown Downers Grove five minutes west, in Oakbrook Terrace, or in the city. Two pieces of advice. Tell the restaurant you are arriving by bus, so it knows the whole party appears at once and nobody holds the table for stragglers. Muddy Waters lived here: blues nights from Westmont
Westmont has a claim no other DuPage suburb can make. Muddy Waters, the man who electrified Chicago blues, moved out from the South Side in the 1970s and spent his last years in a house here. The village has honored him since with a blues festival and other tributes; check the village calendar for the current year's date and location, since both have moved over time.
That history gives local groups a good excuse for a themed night: dinner in town, then a ride to hear the music where it still gets played. Buddy Guy's Legends in the South Loop is the most direct trip. Cass Avenue runs south to an I-55 interchange in Darien, and the Stevenson delivers you within a few blocks of the club without touching the Eisenhower, 35 to 55 minutes in the evening. Kingston Mines in Lincoln Park is a longer haul through downtown or up the Kennedy. Clubs set their own cover charges, age limits, and group reservation rules, so call ahead for any party over eight.
Blues clubs run late, and the last set is often the best one. Reserve enough hours that the group is not watching the clock at midnight, and fix the pickup corner in advance. Cass Avenue: Cruisin' Nights, the Taste, and the BNSF crossing
Downtown Westmont is a few blocks of Cass Avenue on either side of the BNSF tracks, with the Metra station at the center and independent restaurants and taverns along the street. For most of the year it is an easy place to meet a bus. Summer is different. On Thursday evenings the village closes part of Cass for Cruisin' Nights, a long-running classic car show with live music, and in July the Taste of Westmont takes over the same blocks for a weekend. Confirm this year's dates with the village before planning around either.
If your pickup is downtown on one of those evenings, move it two or three blocks east or west of Cass and have the group walk. A bus cannot thread a street full of show cars, and the detour around the closure crosses the railroad, where Metra and freight trains bring the gates down often at rush hour.
The fall and early winter stretch is when demand peaks. Nationally, 32% of birthday inquiries in our network were for October through December, the same months as holiday parties, so a Saturday in early December is the hardest date of the year to book on short notice. Three exits from a town with no expressway
Look at a map and Westmont seems boxed in, with I-88 to the north, I-294 to the east, I-55 to the south, and none of them touching the village. In practice that gives a driver options. Route 83, the Kingery Highway, runs up the east side to I-88 in Oak Brook, the usual path to the Eisenhower, the West Loop, and River North. Ogden Avenue runs east through Clarendon Hills and Hinsdale to a Tri-State interchange, which is the quick way to O'Hare. Cass Avenue runs south to I-55 for Midway, the South Loop, and the stadiums.
Honest ranges: 30 to 55 minutes to the Loop, 25 to 45 to O'Hare, 25 to 45 to Midway. The slow spots are predictable. Route 83 stacks up at 31st Street and near Oakbrook Center on weekend afternoons, Ogden is a stoplight road the whole way, and I-55 crawls at the I-294 interchange on weekday afternoons.

Ogden Avenue restaurant lots
The easiest loading in town. Most Ogden Avenue restaurants have their own lots with room for a bus to pull through. Let the restaurant know a bus is coming and ask where it would like the vehicle to wait during dinner.
Cass Avenue on event nights
Parts of Cass close for Thursday car shows in summer and for the Taste of Westmont. On those dates, load on a parallel street and tell the driver which side of the BNSF tracks you are on.
Westmont Metra lots
The commuter lots beside the station are quiet on weekend evenings and work as a gathering point for friends coming from Clarendon Hills or Downers Grove. Check posted rules before leaving cars overnight.
